The Eny Commercial and Government Code, or CAGE Code, is a unique identifier assigned to suppliers (various government or defense agencies) as well as self-governing agencies, as well as various organizations. The CAGE code provides a standard way to identify a specific installation in a specific location.

CAGE codes are used internationally as part of the NATO Coding System (NCS), where they are sometimes referred to as NCAGE codes. CAGE codes are referenced in many NCS databases, specifically used in conjunction with supplied part numbers to create a cited reference for NATO inventory numbers (NSN). This reference allows the NCS user to specify the delivery of a particular segment.

Information about Enies itself: names, addresses, telephones and more are listed in the H4 and H8 manuals. The National Coding Office of each NATO or NATO-sponsored country is responsible for maintaining the CAGE code information for Enies in the respective country. This catalog contains about 1.5 million Enies.

In the United States, every country wishing to become a Department of Defense supplier obtains a CAGE code from the USNCB: Defense Logistics Information Service (DLIS). An annual request should be made to update the CAGE code issued by eny.

CAGE is sometimes extended to Government Business / Eny, Entrepreneur and Government Eny or similar. According to the DLIS website, trade and government are complying with Eny. CAGE was formerly known as the Federal Sourcing Code for Manufacturers or FSCM, also known as the National Sourcing Code for Manufacturers or NSCM.

In NCS metadata, the CAGE record number (DRN) code is 9250 (or 4140 for NSCM). The information contained in this DRN accurately identifies CAGE semantics, syntax, and related procedures.

Syntax [edit]

The CAGE code consists of five characters. Apart from the basic NCB, there is no meaning encoded in the code itself, it is just a unique identifier.
