Moderation is the process of reviewing comments or forum posts to make sure they don't break any rules set by the site. A moderated comment page or comment area is a page where someone checks whether posted material complies with the site's rules.

Moderation can be roughly described in two forms: passive and active.

• Passive moderation means that the moderator only acts when people report or complain about a post or comment.
• Active moderation means that the moderator actively reads most posts or comments to check for issues, or in some cases only allows posts or comments that have gone through the approval process.

In general, this is a good idea for any site because people are saying weird things online (and bots spam).
