To improve the strength of the small muscles that help pull your fingers together, perform the putty finger adduction exercise. To do this, make a small ball with your therapy putty, and then squeeze the ball between your fingers. Hold the tension for a few seconds, and then release.

How can I strengthen my child’s hands?

  1. Rolling, squeezing, or kneading play dough.
  2. Squeezing clothespins or spray bottles.
  3. Building with blocks.

How do you strengthen your hand muscles?

Grip Strengthener

  1. Hold a soft ball in your palm and squeeze it as hard as you can.
  2. Hold for a few seconds and release.
  3. Repeat 10 to 15 times on each hand. Do this exercise two to three times a week, but rest your hands for 48 hours in between sessions. Don’t do this exercise if your thumb joint is damaged.

How do you use Theraputty?

Place TheraPutty into the palm of the hand and press fingers through the putty until the fingertips reaches the palm, resulting in a fully clenched fist. Release fingers and roll putty in hands to reshape, and repeat exercise.

How do you make Theraputty?

  1. Pour glue into bowl.
  2. Add cornstarch in with glue and Mix.
  3. Add the food coloring and mix again.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix very hot water and 1/4 Tsp Borax until it is dissolved.
  5. Add it to the glue mixture and stir again.
  6. Get your hands in there and knead the putty until it’s no longer sticky.

These activities may help develop your in-hand manipulation skills:

  1. Playing finger tug-of-war by grasping objects with your index finger and thumb.
  2. Flipping cosmetic wedges between the tips of your fingers and thumb.
  3. Moving your fingers down and up a pencil, using the tips of your fingers.

Sit comfortably with your arm resting over your knees. Hold a weight with your palms facing down and your wrist hanging over the knee. Move your hand up as far as possible and then down as far as possible in a slow and controlled motion. Do a set of 10, then repeat.

How can I strengthen my hands and wrists?

If you are able and without pain, hold a one-pound weight in your fist to strengthen your wrist even more. As your hand hangs loosely with palm facing down, slowly lift it upward until you feel a gentle stretch. Return your hand to the starting position. Repeat 10 times, then do the same with your other hand.
