What is a media blaster?
Media blasting service is a powered blast gun that uses pressurized air to remove abrasive materials as graffiti, corrosion restoration, and paint stripping. It has wide applications in industrial restoration and commercial.
What is blasting media used for?
Blasting media can be used for purposes such as cleaning, stripping, etching, strengthening and polishing. In addition to the media type, grit or mesh size is another factor to consider for your application.
Is media blasting the same as sandblasting?
It may be a mouthful, but the correct term for the work we do at American Dry Stripping is “media blasting” or “dry abrasive blasting”. “Sandblasting” (that is, media blasting!) is used in our shop to remove coatings, rust and corrosion, and to add surface profile to prepare alloys for new coatings.
How much does it cost to rent a portable sandblaster?

Is media blasting safe?
Abrasive blasting operations can create high levels of dust and noise. Abrasive material and the surface being blasted may contain toxic materials (e.g., lead paint, silica) that are hazardous to workers. Silica sand (crystalline) can cause silicosis, lung cancer, and breathing problems in exposed workers.
Can you soda blast with regular baking soda?
Can I use regular baking soda like I see in the grocery store? No. While all baking soda is chemically the same (NAHCO3) only ARMEX is formulated for use as a blast media and only ARMEX is manufactured by ARM & HAMMER™.
Can sandblasting remove rust?
The short answer is yes, sandblasting is an effective method for removing rust.
Is it OK to sandblast aluminum?
If you are blasting aluminum surfaces, the abrasive media most often used is glass beads, sodium bicarbonate, or walnut shells. Steel shot or steel grit should be avoided. If you are stripping aluminum wheels to add paint or powder coating, aluminum oxide or crushed glass are good choices.
What is the best media for blasting rust?
If you are blasting aluminum, plastic media, walnut shell, or glass beads are the best choices. These have a lower Mohs hardness, so the metal surface isn’t devastated. For steel or iron, glass beads or aluminum oxide is a good choice, especially if you want to take it down to bare metal.
Can you use glass beads in a sand blaster?
Glass Bead Blasting Equipment Glass bead is typically used in asandblast cabinet. Specifically, since it is not a very heavy blast media it works well in a suction feed sandblast cabinet. Using glass bead with a standard sandblast pot is not very common but you can used crush glass with a standard sandblast pot.
Do Soda Blasters work?
2) Soda blasting also works well as a preventive measure. Drying the sodium bicarbonate into a powdery layer on treated metallic surfaces is known to effectively prevent flash rusting. Materials such as copper react particularly well to soda blasting – it’s even been used to clean the Statue of Liberty!
